ABOUT THE APPLICATION
There are approximately 36,000 persons who are currently wanted by the police in Poland and approximately 14,000 of them are wanted under arrest warrants issued by the police. Every fifth successful arrest is the result of the information received from the public. A lot of the information has been received through POSZUKIWANI (WANTED PERSONS) – a subpage on policja.pl which was launched a few years ago. (http://poszukiwani.policja.pl/).

The current technological progress, however, offers new opportunities. At the beginning of 2013 there were as many as 6.5 million smartphone users and it is anticipated that this number will increase to 13 million by the end of this year.In order to make use of that, we have created a mobile application which makes it possible to recognise the persons who are wanted by the police.

Every time we see or recall that we have seen a wanted person, we can contact the police on 112 and 997 or use the application to send an e-mail directly to the police's mailbox.
Our application has been approved by dr Eligiusz Wronka who is an expert on face perception processes at the Institute of Psychology of the Jagiellonian University:

(…) The more frequently the application users compare the photograph of the face with the details of the wanted person, the better their association with the mental image of the face will become. On the other hand, when various versions of wanted person's face photographs (i.e. original photographs as well as photographs which show altered face features such as facial hair etc.) and facial composites are used, the result may be that such faces are not only remembered better but it is also easier to associate these mental images with the people we see in our surroundings.
